테슬라의 현황- (영어 번역)Current status of Tesla

 

 오늘은 최근 핫 이슈 '테슬라'에 대해 다뤄보고자 한다. 2003년 설립해 2010년 미국 나스닥 상장에 성공했으나 2019년 상반기까지 적자 기록하는 등 주목받지 못했던 회사이다. 그러나 2019년 하반기 흑자 전환하며 2020년부터 눈부신 성장세를 이뤘다. 주가는 말 그대로 미친 듯이 상승했다. 상장 이후 주가의 최저점은 약 12불, 최고점은 약 1200불까지 상승하며 100배의 상승률을 기록했다. 하지만 22년 2분기부터 금리 인상, 중국 코로나 확산에 따른 경기 침체, 트위터 인수 등 굵직한 이슈들로 인해 테슬라 주가는 현재 연일 하락세를 이어가고 있다. 22년 주식 액면분할 이후 최고점 약 385불에서 최저 108불까지 하락했고 현재 120불 대에서 움직이고 있다.

 거시 경제 관점에서 테슬라 뿐만 아니라 모든 증권 시장은 22년 하반기부터 폭락세를 이어가고 있는 건 사실이다. 다만, 테슬라는 그 하락세가 유난히 가파르고 수많은 투자자들에게 실망감을 안기고 있다. 이 현상에 대한 여러 가지 이유가 있겠지만, 최근 테슬라에 대한 투자자들의 신뢰가 무너지고 있는 생각이 든다.

 그 이유 중 하나가 바로 일론머스크, 테슬라 CEO이다. 테슬라 주가의 본격적인 폭락 시발점은 22년 4월 트위터 인수 의사표명이다. 약 55조라는 거액으로 22년 10월에 트위터를 인수하기까지 약 6개월이 걸렸으며 그 과정에 필요한 자금 조달을 위해 일론머스크는 테슬라 주식을 수차례 매도했다. 여기서 문제는 22년 4월 일론머스크가 인수자금 마련 위해 테슬라 주식을 약 4조원치 매각하며 '더 이상의 주식 매도는 없다'라는 말을 공표했다는 것이다. 이 공표에도 불구하고 머스크는 이후 2~3차례 추가 매도를 통해 약 30조원치를 팔았다. 뿐만 아니라 트위터 경영에 정신이 팔려 테슬라 경영은 뒷전으로 하고 있다는 의견이 다분하다. 이는 주가 하락에 불을 지폈을 뿐만 아니라 투자자들로 하여금 더 이상 테슬라 CEO를 신뢰하지 못하게 만들었다. 

 개인적으로 테슬라 현황을 보며 리더의 자질에 대해 다시 생각해본다. 끊임없이 회사의 발전과 투자자들의 신뢰를 얻는 것이 리더의 자질이라고 생각하지만, 최근 일론머스크는 그 자질을 잃어가고 있는 모습이다. 테슬라, 스페이스X 등 놀라운 성과를 통해 신화적인 인물로 평가받던 일론머스크가 과연 이 고난을 극복하며 다시 명성을 회복하고 회사를 정상 궤도에 올려놓을 수 있을지 향후가 주목된다.

 

 Today, I'm gonna deal with a recent hot-issue, Tesla. Tesla was established in 2003 and succeeded in listing on NASDAQ in 2010 but couldn't attract public attention that much till the first half of 2019, recording operating losses. However, it turned into a surplus from the second half of 2019 and achieved spectacular growth. Stock prices literally soared. After stock listing, it rose 100times recording the lowest point at $12 to the highest point at $1,200. Unfortunately, it has been turned into decline day after day since the second quarter of 2022 due to some major issues such as interest rate increase, Twitter acquisition and economic recession caused by the spread of COVID-19 in China. It recorded the lowest point at $108 from the highest point at $385 after it executed stock split in 2022 and is now currently moving in the $120 range. 

 From a macroeconomic point of view, it's true that all stock markets have been in a bear maket since the second half of 2022. However, Tesla's decline is unusually steep and making so many investors disappointed. There must be many other reasons for this current issue but I seems that investors' trust in Tesla has recently been destroying. 

 One of the reasons is Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla. Tesla's stock prices have started to decline since Elon Musk announced intention of acquiring Twitter in Arpril 2022. It took about 6 months to finally acquire Twitter with a enormous amount of about $44 billion in October 2022 and Elon Musk had to sell his Tesla shares several times to raise funds needed for acquisition. But the problem at this point was Elon Musk did announce that there will be no more selling Telsa shares when he sold about $3.1 billion worth of Tesla shares in April 2022. Despite his announcemnet, he sold total $23.4 billion worth of Tesla shares with a few more selling. In addition, there're many opinions saying Elon Musk is no more concerning about managing Tesla but only focusing on Twiter management. This is not only worsening the decline of stock price but also making many investors no longer trust CEO of Tesla. 

 I personnally think about the qualities of leaders, seeing current status of Tesla. I think all leaders have to concern constantly how to develop their companies more and how to get trust of investors. But seeing Elon musk, it looks like he's loosing those qualities himself. Now the whole world is paying attention on whetehr Elon Muck, who was considered as a mythical person through his marvelous achievements on Tesla, SpaceX etc., can overcome these hardships and regain his good reputation and also get the company onto the right track again.

4. execute stock split: 주식 액면분할 하다. 평소에 접하기 힘든 표현이죠? 주식 분할에 대한 동사는 execute를 사용합니다. ex) It executed a five to one stock split. 

5. bear maket: 약세장, 하락장. 어떤 산업군이나 주식 시장이 약세장이다, 하락장이다 라고 표현할 때 자주 쓰는 단어 입니다. 반대말은 bull market 입니다. ex) I lost lots of money in a bear market. 

6. Elon Musk had to sell his Tesla shares several times to raise funds needed for acquisition. 문장 끝부분에 'needed for acquisition'이 funds를 꾸며주고 있죠. 정확한 구문은 funds (which were) needed for acquisition.입니다. 관계대명사+Be동사는 자주 생략되므로 알아두면 문장 이해가 훨씬 쉬워집니다.
